Maligaon, Feb 18: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway acting on information, arrested e-ticket touts from different locations during last few days to check illegal sale of railway tickets.
During this raid 41 numbers of railway e-tickets were recovered that worth more than Rs. 1 lakh 15 thousand. During the raid four persons were arrested and prosecuted in this connection.
In an incident, on 15th February, 2023 RPF team of Bagdogra jointly with CIB/New Jalpaiguri conducted a raid at a shop located at Taiybpur, Kishanganj, Bihar and arrested a tout namely Khabir Alam. The team seized 16 e-tickets worth more than Rs. 23 thousand. A case was registered under section 143 of the Railways Act in this regard against the arrested person.
In a recent incident, on 16th February, 2023 RPF team of Tinsukia jointly with CIB/Tinsukia conducted drive against touting activities of railway tickets at the PRS counter of Margherita railway station.
During drive, they apprehended one tout namely Krishna Kr Sah and recovered 09 railway tickets, worth more than Rs. 40 thousand, 02 cancelled tickets, 02 filled reservation/cancellation requisition forms, cash worth Rs. 6250 along with a mobile phone.
In this connection, a case has been registered under section 143 of the Railways Act. In another incident on the same day one tout namely Dildar Hussain who was wanted in case no. 202/2022 dated 28.10.2022 was arrested by RPF of Chaparmukh and produced before Hon’ble Court of SRM/Guwahati.
It may be mentioned here that RPF of N. F. Railway apprehended 113 touts with recovery of 1134 railway tickets worth more than Rs. 32.39 lakhs during April to January of the current financial year.
The RPF of N. F. Railway keeps close vigil on touting activities to prevent illegal selling of railway tickets. Unauthorized supply and procurement of railway tickets is punishable offence under section 143 of the Railways Act.
