Tura, 2nd November: A 30 day National School of Drama (NSD) workshop is to be held in the town of Tura from the 14th of November and would continue for a month to the 14th of December, 2013. The workshop is being organized in association with the Achik Theatre Group. This is the fifth such collaboration and has been doing its best to promote theatre within the region and also provide an alternate livelihood option.
The General Secretary of the Achik Theatre Group, Richard Marak, said, “A society without drama is a dull society. The Achik Theatre group has been keeping the passion of theatre alive in the Garo society. We have been working on educating people through our work and have been working hand in hand with the NSD to ensure that the people of the region who are really interested in theatre get the space to display their wares. We hope to provide the same kind of platform to the people of not only the state of Meghalaya, but also Arunachal Pradesh and Assam”.
Auditions for the workshop are set to be held in Tura, Meghalaya on the 6th, Bomdilla in Arunachal Pradesh on the 9th and in Guwahati, Assam on the 7th. According to the release, the workshop will follow the NSD acting methodology and will impart elementary and formal acting training to the participants, who will be chosen after a short interview to showcase their acting, singing and dancing skills. The last date for enrolment has been set on the 5th of November. The workshop is aimed at people between the age group of 18 to 35 years.
The initiative has been taken by the NSD, which is an autonomous Institution under the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India.(SP News)
