A two -week long training of masons on Earthquake Resistant Building Technology was conducted at the NIT, Sohra.

 

Shillong, June 22: In order to enhance local masons and increases their capacity of construction as well as enable them to learn new and modern technologies  to build earthquake resistant building, A two -week long training of masons on Earthquake Resistant Building Technology was conducted at the National Institute of Technology, Sohra.

The two-week long training programme which kick started from June 10-15 for the first batch and from 17-22 for the second batch concluded on Saturday.

The training was conducted by the institute in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority of East Khasi Hills District and funded by the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority.

Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills Sanjay Goyal stated that one cannot stop nature’s fury and that is why all the mitigation measures must be taken against disasters especially when our state lies on a seismic zone V.

He also informed that the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has been collaborating with other agencies like GVK EMRI, Central Training Institute, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute to impart training to the people regarding all Disaster Management related issues.

Meanwhile, Director of National Institute of Technology Prof DK Saikia  said that this is the first training conducted by National Institute of Technology in the state and expressed readiness on the part of the institute to associate itself in implementing such programmes in the future.

The programme was also attended RRBR Thabah, the Director (NRM), Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, I Majaw, the ADC & CEO of DDMA- East Khasi Hills District and K Wanniang, the ADPO of East Khasi Hills District.(SP News)
