Shillong, Dec 22: As you all aware that the proscribed HNLC, a banned organization has called for a 12hour bandh on 23.12.2013 from 6.00am to 6.00 pm which has drawn criticism from a large section of the society including the church organizations and religious leaders of the State. Such bandh called during the festive season like Christmas is not only unprecedented as Christmas festival is celebrated by a majority of the people of the State who are largely Christian by faith but has also hurt the religious sentiments of the people. The bandh will also affect our own people who are earning their livelihood as daily wage labourers, etc and a day loss will definitely have an adverse impact in their effort to enjoy the festive season with their family.
The District Administration, in our duty to uphold the law and order in the District and to ensure that each one of us are able to live in a peaceful manner which will usher in a meaningful way to celebrate Christmas hereby appeal to the citizens of East Khasi Hills District, the shop keepers in all the commercial areas, the Headmen/Rangbah Shnong, the various Seng Longkmie, Seng Samla Shnong/ Youth organization to come out in large numbers like in any other weekday.
Once again, I would like to reiterate our appeal particularly to the shop keepers and commercial establishment to open their shutters as this will facilitate the public at large and also ensure that the festival is celebrated in a meaningful way as only 2(two) days are left before Christmas. The headmen, mothers’ union and the youth have a pivotal role to play in this regard and their efforts will go a long way in ensuring that we all celebrate the ensuing festival in a peaceful manner and a joyous heart.
The District Administration together with the District Police, East Khasi District will deploy security forces throughout the city and ensure full security throughout the district.
Lastly, the District Administration wishes a “Merry X-Mas” and a “Peaceful and Prosperous New Year 2014” to all the citizens of the State.(SP News)
