Government has no intention to hold talks with the pressure groups: Mukul

 

Shillong, Nov 26: Meghalaya Government has made it clear that the Government has no intention to hold talks with the pressure groups in the state.

Talking to reporters, Meghalaya Chief minister Dr. Mukul Sangma said that there will be no discussion on ILP.

Dr Sangma said, “Government does not want to discuss on ILP and there will be no discussion on ILP.”

Sangma stated, “If some body says the Tenancy Act is not effective then they should suggest what is more effective.”

He said the Government wants to take on board all stakeholders with the Bill and the consultation gives opportunity to the people to give their suggestions on the Bill if its competent enough to address the issue of influx.

Chief Minister even took a dig at some of the political parties   for raising the issue of ILP saying that some political parties thrive on these issues for elections  and instead a create a sense of security among people besides acting as a messiah for the people.

When asked about why Government is not inviting the agitating pressure groups for talks, he reiterated that the Government invited them for talks but they came with a close mind.

On the ongoing agitations that has affected common men, an annoyed Chief Minister said, “Common people are suffering from years where we allowed the pressure groups to act with disregard to law.

Accusing the pressure groups for violent incidents that has been reported in the city, Sangma said all the crime and violent incidents has to be linked to these pressure groups as they went into hiding with intent to create law and order problems.

“They need to be told that this is not the right approach and because of this state is lagging behind and focus of the Government gets dislocated from the developmental activities,” he added.(SP News)
