Government to distribute levy sugar to public in packet: Dr Mukul

Shillong, August 11:  The Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr Mukul Sangma said that the government is still working on the system how to get levy sugar to the public since the central government has asked to procure from the open market.

While answering to queries the Chief Minister said that the department is working on it on selecting contractor to bring the sugar from the sugar mill to the state.

When the Food Corporation of India is entrusted to bring sugar to the state from time to time people are complaining that the sugar supply by the FCI is not fit for human consumption.

Taking this into account the government of Meghalaya want to supply levy sugar to the public in packet form. This will not only help to people to get better quality but will ensure the safety of the people.

The chief minister did not elaborate on it when will be the people of Meghalaya will again get these levy sugar, he said the government is working on it and it will be soon.(SP News)
