Shillong, May 31: Premiere force in the North East, the Assam Rifles besides serving the North Eastern states in providing physical security in evolved itself in securing future generations to safeguard the environment.
In continuance with the crusade, the Assam Rifles launched its ‘Go Green’ campaign . The campaign was launched by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles at Laitkor Garrison on Friday.
Through this campaign the Assam Rifles also incorporated the school children thereby educating them on the effects of deforestation like global warming, soil erosion, sequestering carbon dioxide emission besides apprising them of the various problems faced due to environmental degradation.
As part of the campaign, the school children of Assam Rifles Public School and Assam Rifles Nodal School, Laitkor planted a number of saplings.
More than 5000 saplings were planted, comprising of varied species of coniferous, ornamental and fruit bearing trees.
In consonance with the ‘Go Green’ theme, similar reforestation drives are being launched by the Formations and Units of Assam Rifles throughout the North East Region.
Also present at the occasion includes TC Marak Chief Conservator of Forests, Daniel Ingty Director Horticulture, ER Kyndiah Range Officer besides others. (SP News)
