MEPAD demands implementation of Supreme court directives

Shillong, Jan 14: Meghalaya Parents Association for Disabled (MEPAD) has demanded the implementation of the Supreme Court’s directives which state that 3% reservation for the “posts” in conformity with the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995” by the state Govt.

The association has stated that on 8th October 2013, Supreme Court has given direction asking to implement the 3% reservation for the Persons with Disabilities.

However, the association has informed that now it is incumbent upon the Govt. of Meghalaya to confirm the implementation of the  Supreme Court directives by 8th January 2014.

The association in its press statement said, “With the above direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, it is now clear that the reservation of 3% for the differently abled persons in conformity with the Act’95 should be computed on the basis of the total strength of a cadre (identified & not identified) and not just on the vacancies available in the posts that are identified.”

The association also informed, “MEPAD shall take the course of RTI to know the nature of action taken by Govt of Meghalaya since the effective implementation of the 3% reservation for differently abled persons are awaited as per Supreme Court Directive dated 08.10.2013.”(SP News)
