The Governor of Meghalaya launched PDP project at Anton Hall, Shillong

Shillong, March 11: The PDB Project was conceived and implemented in 2015. While, the project was launched in many states of India,however, for the North-eastern region the project waslaunchedon 10th March 2018 at the inaugural-cum-Awareness function held at Anton Hall, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. The program was held by Indian Medical Association (IMA) & All Indian Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) in collaboration with Bansara Eye Care Centre (BECC) and Society for Promotion of Eye Care & Sight (SPECS).

Earlier at 10 am, to spread awareness about the prevention of diabetes & diabetic blindness, a motorbike rally commuting in and around Shillong was flagged off by the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Shri. Davis Marak. Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated the organizers and assured his support towards this endeavour.

Simultaneously, to commemorate the launch of the IMA“Prevention of Diabetic Blindness” (PDB) Project, an awareness program was conducted in which Dr. D.S. Sethi (Diabetologist), Dr. NSD Raju (Chairman IMA PDB Project) and Dr. BNR Subudhi (National Coordinator IMA PDB Project) were the prominent speakers. The program witnessed 314 participants from various NGOs, Members from the Press, Schools of Nursing, Health Organizations, colleges and Universities.

Soon after the arrival of the Chief Guest – Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Ganga Prasad – the formal inauguration commenced wherein he emphasized on the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle to safeguard oneself from preventable diseases such as diabetes. Further, he encouraged the younger generation to exercise frequently and incorporate it in their routine while also expressing his willingness to support the project.

The inauguration was chaired by Dr. Kharshiing (IMA President, Meghalaya). Other dignitaries present in the event were Dr. J. V Basaiawmoit (Organizing Secretary & Medical Director, Bansara Eye Care Centre), Dr. LobsangTsetim(Senior Eye Surgeon, Arunachal Pradesh) and Dr. AK Das (Ophthalmologist).

Soon after the inauguration of the PDB Project, a free screening camp for diabetes and diabetic retinopathy was conducted till 4 pm in which people came to avail free screening.
