Shillong, Nov 16: The country today observed the national press day, the press fraternity of Megh
alaya along with rest of the country celebrate these national press day in which the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Mr AT Mandal inaugurated the function in the morning session.
In the inaugural address the Speaker said that the press in India has a special place where the freedom of speech is guaranteed in the constitution. He also said that there is also a limit in discharging the duties should not cross the limit to intrude into personal lives.
To have a vibrant democracy need also vibrant press, the Speaker also lamented that the press today have turn themselves into corporate houses; they are more for their profit than their duties in serving the people. The advertisement that was carried out by the press especially on the Medicare part should be very curious.
The Speaker said that today there are different type of dissemination of information, the News print, the Electronic media and with the latest trend is the portal news which Meghalaya have two portal news, the www: spnewsagency.com and the ohmeghalaya.com where news was spread through internet.
The Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills Mr Sanjay Goyal in his address said that the media has a very important roll in dissemination of information to the public. He also said that if they could also carried developmental news.
