Shillong, August 04: The propose of the state government to declare certain areas of West Khasi Hills and some portion under South West Khasi Hills as elephant reserved areas is now kept in the cold storage since the land owner opposed to the idea.
According to the propose area prepare by the Wild like division of the forest department government will include some part of the West Khasi Hills District and some part of the South West Khasi Hills District.
The area started from the border with East and South Garo Hills District, come to Nonghallam village in South West Khasi Hills and to Warsan Lyngdoh area and from Nirang to Mawiet. The land owners of those areas opposed to the proposal made by the state government.
With the opposition from the People of Warsan Lyngdoh area who has given in writing to the Government of Meghalaya and the land owners from the clans of the Lyngngam area the government has kept the propose plan of having the elephant reserved in the area into the cold storage. (SP News)
