Thousands of people witness the motor cycle display by the army 101

THE GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS OF HQ 101 AREA AT POLO GROUND Shillong, April 20: Today large crowd witnessed breath taking display by army motor cycle team as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Head Quater 101 area at polo ground.

The event was to entirely for the people of Shillong. The event was also aimed at the youth of Meghalaya and north east to join the Indian Army one of the best professions in the country and be part of main stream India.

Other programmes during the event were khukri dance, mule trick show dog show , military band display and aerobics display. People of Shillong, school children from various schools of Shillong, officers, troops of the army and their families enjoyed an excellent programme.

The world record holding Motor Cycle Display Team of the Corps of Military Police popularly known as the “SHWET ASHW” performed as the main event of the day. The programme was organized under the aegis of Lieutenant General RS Panwar GOC HQ 101 area, as part of their Golden Jubilee celebration. The school children were overjoyed to see display of precision and courage by the Motor cycle display team.

The expertise of  the mule riders, the discipline of the dogs during the dog show and the well coordinated khukri dance and aerobics display. The polo ground erupted in thunderous applause by the young crowd witnessing the entire event perhaps for the first time in Shillong.

The performance will be the talk of the town for some time to come. Major General Gurdip Singh Chief of Staff HQ 101 area speaking on the occassion said that this event though part of golden jubilee celebrations of HQ 101 area is primarily for the people of Shillong specially the youth to inspire them to join the Army.

Brigadier Manohar Thomas commandant of 58 GTC and his team worked overtime to ensure that the polo ground was fit to be used by the motor cycle team and other performers.  The rain had poured throughout the night making the execution of the programme extremely difficult. The same programme will show again to the public on the 23 of this month at Garison Ground.(SP News)
