Shillong, Oct 22: The president of India Pranab Mukherjee in
his address at the XXI convocation of the North Eastern Hills University to day said that he found that “ Performance of the Girls is much better in the North Eastern Hills University”.
Referring to the education system that the country have, the president said that the North Eastern Region need to be strengthen in the education. He said that the tribal culture of the region is rich but yet remain untapped.
While commenting on the world ranking of different university, the president lamented when he say from among the 200 top universities in the world not a single Indian university was included.
The president said the central government spent a lot in the expansion of higher education, but this expansion should also go hand in hand with excellence, when he took over as the president of India and become the visitors of the central Universities he personally took interest and realized that excellence is not their in the Indian Universities.
The president propagates that universities should concentrate on proper researches and development. Many bright students from the country go abroad for higher studies. The president said that this has to be change rather it should attracted foreign student to come to India for study.
The president also remind the citizen of the country that renounce universities in the world like Cambridge and Oxford universities are not full born by government but its has become great base on the endow found raise from the public. He urged the student who completed their study should not forget the university.
The Governor of Meghalaya Dr K K Paul inhis address said that the real education will enable a person to stand on it own leg. He said that Shillong has been consider as a seat of Education before independence and it remain till today.
In today convocation candidate who received their degrees in Phd 114, Mphil 20, PG Degrees 950, Bachelor’s degrees 7280 all together 8364. (SP News)
