Shillong, April 15: Prompt response and timely medical assistance by troops of BSF Meghalaya, on a distress call has successfully rescued a minor girl, who suffered serious injuries following an electric shock on 7 April 2026.
At about 11:30 hrs, on 07 April 2026,a 10-year-old girl, Miss Nikhami N. Marak, daughter of Shri Lithon D. Sangma, resident of Rongra Bolgiske village, inadvertently came into contact with a live electric pole at a civil construction site near the Rongra River, resulting in an electric shock.
Upon hearing the distress call, BSF troops from BOP Rongra immediately rushed to the spot and displaying exceptional presence of mind, they immediately informed the Electricity Department to disconnect the power supply, preventing further risk.
The injured girl was swiftly evacuated to Rongra Primary Health Centre (PHC) for initial treatment and after first aid, she was referred for further treatment and subsequently shifted to Baghmara Government Hospital in a BSF ambulance, accompanied by a Nursing Assistant and her family members. Timely intervention of BSF troops has ensured proper medical assistance and helped to avert a potentially life-threatening situation.
The Border Security Force remains steadfast in its humanitarian commitment and continues to stand by the local population in times of need.
