Shillong, May 13: The NEIGRIHMS Nurses Association celebrated International Nurses Day on 12th May 2026 in the gracious presence of Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, Director, NEIGRIHMS, and Guest of Honour Prof. Nochovono Tase, Principal, College of Nursing.
The program was also attended by other dignitaries including Sri. David T. Umdor, SE and Deputy Director (Admin) In-charge, and Smt. Irene A. Nongthraw, Nursing Superintendent, along with members of the medical and nursing fraternity, faculty, staff, and nursing students.
The event was organised to honour the dedication, compassion, and vital contributions of nurses in caring for patients and supporting healthcare systems around the world. The day also marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, whose work laid the foundation for modern nursing practices.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta lauded the nurses of NEIGRIHMS for their professionalism, commitment, and tireless service towards their patients. He also highlighted the indispensable role they played in the healthcare delivery system and commended their selfless service towards society.
Prof. Mehta further appreciated the NEIGRIHMS nurses for their efforts not only in provision of healthcare but also towards the education and training activities conducted regularly for Nurses of the entire North East Region.
It is time, he stated in conclusion of his address, to recognize nurses for their commitment, hard work, and the essential role played in promoting health and saving lives.
Smt. Irene A. Nongthraw delivered the speech with theme “Our Nurses, Our Future, Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” emphasizing the pivotal role of nurses in strengthening healthcare services and improving patient outcomes through skilled and compassionate care.
The celebration concluded with a vibrant cultural programme in which nursing staff and nursing students participated enthusiastically, reflecting the spirit of unity, cultural diversity, and camaraderie.
