Meghalaya Legislator attend National Leadership programme in Bengaluru

Shillong, May 13: Seven legislators from Meghalaya participated in the State Legislators Leadership Programme held from May 10–12, 2026 at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, jointly organised by Azim Premji University and PRS Legislative Research.

The residential leadership programme was designed to strengthen the capacities of state legislators through focused discussions on governance, public policy, leadership, and emerging developmental challenges.

The Meghalaya legislators who participated in the programme were, Deputy Speaker Shri Limison D. Sangma, MLA, Raksamgre, Shri Mayralborn Syiem, MLA, Nongpoh, Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, MLA, Umsning, Shri Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, MLA, Mylliem, Shri Gabriel Wahlang, MLA, Nongstoin, Shri Ollan Sing Suin, MLA, Mawsynram, Shri Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah, MLA, Mawphlang.

The programme featured expert-led sessions aimed at enhancing legislative effectiveness and policy understanding. Key discussions included How to Be an Effective Legislator, focusing on legislative responsibilities and tools available to lawmakers; Critical Issues in Education.

Examining challenges and opportunities in India’s education sector; Towards Health for All, addressing public health concerns and actionable policy responses; and Understanding Public Finance, highlighting the crucial role of legislators in budget scrutiny and financial oversight.

Participants also engaged in discussions on emerging and contemporary issues, including the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence across sectors such as health, finance, and citizen services, as well as the challenges surrounding youth employment, skilling, and the transition from education to earning.

A dedicated session on digital communication also explored effective public engagement through content creation in the digital era.

The participation of Meghalaya’s legislators in the national programme underscores a commitment to strengthening legislative capacity, informed policymaking, and effective governance.

The exchange of ideas, peer learning, and expert insights gained through the programme are expected to further support the legislators in addressing constituency priorities and contributing to the state’s broader development goals.
