Ampati, July 9: Continuous monsoon rains have caused damage to road infrastructure at several locations across South West Garo Hills district, affecting connectivity in some areas. However, no human casualties, animal deaths or crop damage have been reported.
According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), road connectivity has been affected on the Silkona–Tikrikilla Road in the Mahendraganj area, the Lokaichar–Kalaipara Road, and the Garobadha–Dalu Road (around Km 52) due to landslides and erosion caused by heavy rainfall.
In another incident, road damage has been reported at Kotchu Adok on the road connecting Purakhasia and Dalu. The road has been affected by incessant rain and requires urgent restoration to prevent disruption to the movement of commuters and essential services.
Officials stated that a road blocked by a landslide has been partially cleared, allowing traffic movement, while restoration works on damaged road embankments will be undertaken after floodwaters recede and weather conditions improve.
The district administration informed that there have been no reports of damage to drinking water infrastructure or communication facilities, and no relief distribution has been required so far.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation through its 24×7 District Control Room and is coordinating with the concerned departments to restore connectivity at the earliest.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and immediately report incidents of flooding, landslides, road blockages or other emergencies to the district authorities for prompt assistance.
