Shillong July 22: The World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026 concluded with a glittering Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, celebrating some of the world’s finest young performers.
Although India’s lone finalist, Kitkupar Nongsiej from Meghalaya, did not secure the coveted title of Grand Champion Performer of the World, he emerged as one of India’s brightest stars, returning home with an outstanding haul of three Gold Medals, two Bronze Medals, and the prestigious First Place Scholarship Award.
Representing India with distinction, Kitkupar impressed the international panel of judges through his remarkable vocal performances across multiple categories. He was awarded two Gold Medals and two Bronze Medals for the song genres in which he competed, demonstrating his versatility, stage presence, and vocal excellence against participants from more than 70 countries.
Adding another milestone to his achievements, Kitkupar received one Gold Medal for finishing among the Top Five Vocalists in the highly competitive Vocalist of the World Championship, a recognition reserved for the competition’s most outstanding singers. The achievement places him among the elite vocal performers at this year’s global championship.
In another significant honour, WCOPA awarded Kitkupar the First Place Scholarship, acknowledging his exceptional talent and artistic potential. The scholarship is expected to provide him with valuable opportunities for advanced training and international exposure in the performing arts.
