Tura, Sept 22: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mr. Conrad K. Sangma on Monday undertook a day-long visit to Phulbari and Rajabala area of West Garo Hills, meeting people directly in their villages. He interacted with the public at Rongadatgre, Chandigre, Chibinang, Shyamnagar and Bhaitbari, listening to their concerns first-hand.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Phulbari MLA Abu Taher Mondal and Selsella MLA Arbinstone Marak. The visit holds particular significance as it is part of the Chief Minister’s ongoing effort to travel across the State and engage directly with people, especially in rural and remote areas.
By meeting villagers on their own ground, the Government aims to ensure that the needs of the last person in the last village are understood at the highest level, without intermediaries or delay.
At Rongadatgre, people from various parts of the Demdema C&RD Block and Batabari C&RD Block gathered in large numbers to meet the Chief Minister. Officials of the CM-Connect team were present to register the concerns raised by the villagers on the spot, so that each issue is recorded and followed up.
Speaking at the gathering, the Chief Minister said the purpose of the visit was to hear the concerns of the people directly. “It has been the endeavour of the government to reach out to every nook and corner of the State. I have been visiting different parts of the State to understand the people’s concerns directly. Today’s visit is part of that initiative, where I engage with people, listen to their concerns and issue the necessary directives,” he said.
Acknowledging the range of issues raised, he said that not everything can be resolved at once, but the Government will make a concerted effort to address the problems of the people.
“As a government, we listen and come up with solutions that will help our people grow. We want to ensure that the people of our State have the opportunity to raise their issues before the Chief Minister. No voice will go unheard. Our team will note every issue and work to resolve it on a priority basis in a time-bound manner,” he added.
At Chibinang Bazar, residents submitted petitions and memorandums, mainly concerning roads and connectivity. Responding to these long-standing demands, the Chief Minister informed the gathering that work orders are being issued to resolve road connectivity issues in the plain belt of West Garo Hills, particularly in Phulbari, Rajabala and New Bhaitbari.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing construction of a stadium at Shyamnagar. The project is part of the Government’s continued push to build infrastructure that nurtures local talent and gives young people in rural areas better facilities to pursue sports.
The visit to Phulbari and Rajabala reflects Government’s larger vision of inclusive development, where governance is not confined to the capital but reaches every village, and where the people’s concerns shape priorities.
By combining direct public engagement, a structured mechanism through CM-Connect for recording and following up on issues, and timely action on infrastructure, the Government continues to work toward the balanced and equitable growth of all regions of the State.
