Shillong, Oct 09: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District, conducted a training and capacity-building programme for volunteers and representatives of various Durga Puja Committees at the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides premises in preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
The programme aimed to strengthen safety, preparedness and coordinated emergency response during the festivities.
As part of the initiative, the Traffic Police briefed participants on traffic management and road safety, while Civil Defence personnel provided training on disaster preparedness and emergency response. Aapda Mitra volunteers also demonstrated essential emergency response techniques and safety practices to equip participants with the necessary skills to respond effectively to emergencies.
The active participation of volunteers and Puja Committee representatives reflected a collective commitment to ensuring safe, smooth and incident-free Durga Puja celebrations in Shillong.
The initiative underscores the importance of community participation, awareness and preparedness in promoting public safety during large gatherings and festive occasions.
