Shillong, Oct 09: North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) highlighted its financial achievements, power generation capacity, upcoming infrastructure projects and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives during the monthly meeting of the Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC), held at NEEPCO, Shillong, today.
Shri Samiran Sinha Ray, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), NEEPCO, welcomed the participants and briefed them on the corporation’s overall performance, major achievements and ongoing initiatives. A presentation by NEEPCO highlighted its installed power generation capacity, financial performance, major operational milestones, upcoming projects and contribution to the development of the North Eastern Region.
As presented during the meeting, NEEPCO has an installed power generation capacity of 2,051 MW in the North Eastern Region, comprising 1,519 MW of hydropower, 527 MW of gas-based power and 5 MW of solar power. The corporation recorded its highest-ever Profit After Tax of ₹769.08 crore in the financial year 2025–26. According to data from the National Power Portal, NEEPCO accounts for approximately 32.6 per cent of the region’s total installed power generation capacity of 6,298 MW.
The presentation highlighted NEEPCO’s major power stations across the Northeast, including the 600 MW Kameng Hydroelectric Power Station in Arunachal Pradesh, commissioned during 2020–21. The corporation is pursuing several major projects, including the 240 MW Heo, 186 MW Tato-I and 700 MW Tato-II hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh. In the renewable energy sector, NEEPCO is also pursuing a 300 MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic project at Bikaner, Rajasthan. These initiatives are expected to augment power generation capacity and support India’s clean energy transition.
NEEPCO’s CSR and community development initiatives were also highlighted during the presentation. These activities focus on education, healthcare, sanitation, skill development, community infrastructure and support for economically disadvantaged sections of society. As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, NEEPCO has recently adopted the MUDA Shopping Complex at Khyndailad, Police Bazar, Shillong, as a Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU). Regular cleanliness and maintenance activities are being undertaken, including the removal of paan and lime stains, cleaning of walls and affected surfaces, and addressing littering to promote public hygiene and maintain a cleaner environment.
The IMPCC, established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the regional level, facilitates communication, coordination and information sharing among government departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and media units. The meeting reviewed publicity activities undertaken during the previous month and discussed media plans for the coming month, focusing on the dissemination of information about government programmes, institutional achievements, public welfare initiatives and forthcoming events.
Representatives from various government departments, public sector undertakings and media organisations attended the meeting. These included NEEPCO, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), the Soil and Water Conservation Department, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Census authorities, Akashvani Programme Section, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Umiam, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Meghalaya, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shillong, the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC).
The meeting provided a platform for participating organisations to share their achievements and forthcoming initiatives, strengthen inter-departmental coordination and promote wider public awareness through coordinated media outreach.
