Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight 2014 to be observed

Shillong, July 25:The Department of Health and Family Welfare under the aegis of National Health Mission, East Khasi Hills District will observe the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) – 2014 across the district from 28th July to 8th August, 2014.

The fortnight long programme will be launch by Mr. K. C. Khyriem, Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism and Arts & Culture departments on 28th July, 2014 at Mawphlang PHC, Mawphlang at 11:00 a.m. The programme will also be attended by Mr. Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District.

It may be mentioned here that the main objective of the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) – 2014 is to intensify the diarrhoea control activities which will help in preventing deaths due to childhood diarrhoea. The activities which will be carried out during the fortnight include intensification of advocacy activities, awareness generation activities, diarrhoea management service provision, establishment of ORS-Zinc corners, ORS distribution by ASHAs, detection of undernourishment in children and their treatment and promotion of infant and young child feeding activities.

In the meeting of the District Steering Committee held today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, a review was taken for the successful observation of the fortnight and in the meeting  the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills informed that the East Khasi Hills District has been awarded by the State Government as the Best District and Mylliem C&RD Block as the Best Block in providing family services during the observation of Population Stabilization Fortnight- 2014.

It was also informed in the meeting that Smit Public Health Centre, Smit has been awarded as the best PHC for providing good health care facility services during the observation of Population Stabilization Fortnight- 2014 by the District Health Society, East Khasi Hills District.

Later in the day, an orientation session was also conducted for Medical Health Officers of the District as part of the preparatory activities for the observation of the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) – 2014.(SP News)
