Shillong, April 17: The people of North Garo Hills realized that the biggest problem fro them is drinking water, and the District administration also seen that this is the biggest problem and to manage water in the district the District Water Management and Preservation committee was form.
The Deputy Commissioner has called for the meeting to discussed this problem not only among the official but also with the village elders of the District how to go ahead to tackle this water problem in the District.
In the meeting chair by the Deputy Commissioner of the North Garo Hills District they have taken two prong actions to deal with the water problem, in a short terms and long terms measures. For the short measures they will construct more Burwell tank and in the long term catchment areas should be protected.
Official people from the Public Health Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation also participate in the meeting, in the meeting a resolution was taken to asked people not to do jhum cultivation in the catchment areas.(SP News)
