Shillong, May 23: The KHADC will tabled the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) village administration bill, 2013 at its coming session starting from June 18.
The Bill will be tabled with an aim to curb the formation of self styled Rangnah Shnongs in the district.
Chief Executive Member, Pynshngain N Syiem said, “The bill is introduced to curb the recent instances of self-styled rangbah shnongs and if passed government authorities like the deputy commissioner and police will have to recognize him as per law.”
“If the Bill becomes a law then there will be transparency in the functioning of the office of the rangbah shnong,’ he added.
Syiem observed that the Rangbah Shnong (traditional village heads) have not been protected if one is to go by law.
It may be mentioned here that there were recent reports of violation of the sixth schedule in certain localities of the city through the formation of Panchayati Raj and self-styled Rangbah Shnong who issued illegal birth and residential certificates to individuals with doubtful credentials.
In connection to this the KHADC has decided to move court in this regard.(SP News)
