Shillong, Nov 01: In a significant milestone for indigenous music and cultural expression, Shillong-based folk-fusion band Da-La-Riti unveiled its EP Her Sha Ka Thong, marking the culmination of years of creative exploration, perseverance and commitment to preserving and promoting Khasi musical heritage.
Led by singer-songwriter Dalariti Gratel Kharnaior, the EP launch brought together prominent personalities from the music and cultural fraternity, with Fredric Kharkongor attending as Chief Guest and Munish Singh as Guest of Honour. The occasion was also graced by noted musicians Lou Majaw, Rudy Wahlang, Kit Shangpliang, Daminot Wankhar and Desmond Sun.
The EP, whose title signifies striving towards one’s goal, reflects the band’s musical journey, resilience and dedication to sustaining Khasi cultural identity through music. Recalling the evolution of Da-La-Riti, Dalariti spoke of the challenges, collaborations and personal experiences that shaped the band, emphasising that while musicians may change, its identity and cultural purpose remain constant.
The event also featured the participation of Goongoonalo, an artist-owned music platform represented by its CEO Sherley Singh, Marketing Lead Manisha Sharma, Artist Investor Joshua Singh and Legal and Licensing Head Devi. The platform promotes artist empowerment through music rights management, distribution and opportunities for creators to retain greater control over their work.
The release of Her Sha Ka Thong marks a significant milestone for Da-La-Riti, bringing its long-cherished musical aspirations to fruition while reaffirming its dedication to indigenous music and cultural expression.
