Shillong, June 05: The Governor of Meghalaya Shri R S Mooshahary in his inaugural address to the conference “Integrated Water Resources Management” organized by the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) gave a strong message by saying that ”Most of the plan fail, due to lack of proper implementation”
He said all, the Members of Parliament, Members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and senior bureaucrat should visit rural area to see that scheme is properly implemented. The government has many plants to promote but unfortunately fails.
About the conservation of water, the governor said that said that the problems are not that we do not have water, but the problems are that “we don’t know have to conserve water”. The agricultural sector should encourage micro irrigation and drip irrigation, so that we can coin this words” Crops for a Drop”.
In the human history in the earlier days they use to wage wars to expand their territory but at present human race will wage war for water. He said that water is a metaphor for life, all living being feed by food grain and that is rain.
The Deputy Chief Minister Mr Rowell Lyngdoh in his speech said that mare than 50% of the population in Meghalaya lives in the rural area therefore is necessary that conservation of water for agriculture used.
In this one day seminar the various speaker has dwelt at length about the necessity of proper management on water, not only manage but also water should be free from pollution. (SP News)
