Guwahati, July 03: The BJP president Raj Nath Singh to addressed a public rally in Gitanagar field,a pogramme organised to felicitate the BJP councilors on their success in the recently concluded GMC election. The visit of the president is not only opening a new chapter for the BJP party, but also inflicting a pain for the Assam Gana Parishad that is already going through a serious crisis.
Senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader and two-time minister Atul Bora on Wednesday formely joined Bharatia Janata Party (BJP) with the presence of it’s national president Rajnath Singh in Guwahati.Besides Bora, several others of Congress and AGP joined the saffron party in a public rally.
“For a long time I have been thinking of joining BJP. Even the AGP workers were also insisting me to join the party. Today, it’s a new beginning and I have full faith in the party in solving the major problems we are facing at the present time,” said the one of the founding members of the Assam’s regional party.
With him minority leader from Barak valley Maqbul Ali, AGP leaders Prabhat Das and Nripen Das, former Congress councillor Sikha Rani Choudhury and others joined BJP.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajnath Singh at his maiden Assam tour as national president said that wind of change is blowing across the state. “We even did not expect our party to do well in GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) election this time. I believe this is the beginning. People are fed up with the corruption done by the Congress. It’s a great moment that someone like Atul Bora who have been two time cabinet minister without any corruption slur on him has joined our party,” Singh said addressing a packed gathering.
Slamming the ruling Congress party for rampant corruption and price hike, he vowed to do all round development for the north-eastern region if given an opportunity.(SP News)
