Shillong, July 25: The Rally condemning crime against women held at Dinam Hall, Jaiaw, Shillong on Thursday, has strongly and unequivocally condemned the increase crime committed against women without distinction of age, of economic and social status in the State of Meghalaya, in the North East and in the whole country of India.
It is greatly disturbed by increasing sexual harassment, sexual molestation, domestic violence in various forms, rape which does not spare small children and even one’s own off-springs and blood relatives, trafficking for sexual slavery, labour which include both women and children despite having so many laws to prevent such inhuman actions perpetrated and penalise sexual offenders, traffickers, rapists and so on.
The Rally participants therefore call and urges upon Government , Faith of different religious institutions, Civil Society, Rights Defenders to seriously take up proactive action to prevent and stop forthwith giving space and quarter for this crime to continue unabated by
At the end of the rally they have adopted the resolution that State Governments in the region to constitute special cells to tackle crime against women and children in the Police Stations, Beat Houses and Outposts;
All State Governments to constitute Special Commissions to handle Crime Against Women and Children not only to receive complaints and adjudicate but to carry out awareness campaign on a war footing at all levels by engaging Village/Local Women Organisations, Village/Local Youth Organisations, Educational and Health Institutions both of the public and private sectors, even translate and disseminate widely the laws, IPCs related on subject matter for public information and understanding;
The Judicial system be restructured in such a way that cases on subject matter are dispensed with in a time-bound manner;
all religious of various faith institutions, including their respective women’s organisations and fellowships to develop and articulate a theology of womanhood whereby women are honoured and respected and given due recognition as equal partners in all matters and created in the divine image;by introducing lessons in the School and College curriculum on sex education, human sexuality and gender justice;
which all stakeholders join hands to prevent further acts of atrocities against women and children by transcending religious and denominational barriers, personality differences, caste, class, ethnic differences.

Dr. P.B.M. Basaiawmoit, Sr. Adviser, IBSWO & Consultant, NEDF and Mr. G.D. Lakiang, President, Indigenous Biodiversity & Social Welfare Organisation (IBSWO), gave the welcome address Opening Prayer was offered by Rev. P.G.
