Ampati, March 19: The Office of the District Statistical Officer, South West Garo Hills, Ampati, successfully organized a one-day District Level Sensitization Programme on Wednesday at the Multi-Facility Centre, Ampati.
The programme was held as part of the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities under the Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS) Scheme of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Government of India.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of agricultural and price statistics among selected Village Employment Council (VEC) secretaries, village headmen, and farmers.
The sensitization programme focused on enhancing understanding of crop statistics, land use data, and price statistics, which play a crucial role in effective policy-making and community development.
Dolrich B.G. Momin, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of South West Garo Hills, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the significance of such initiatives in strengthening communities and fostering national development.
“Such programmes are important and helpful in strengthening communities. There is so much to learn from them, and everyone’s cooperation helps build a better nation. Each individual plays an important role in strengthening the nation,” he stated.
During the programme, Sanang G. Momin, District Statistical Officer, delivered the welcome address. B.G. Momin, Research Officer, DES Shillong, provided insightful remarks on the Crop Cutting Experiment for agricultural crops and highlighted the significance of crop statistics and land use statistics.
Additionally, D.T.N. Sangma, Research Officer, DES Shillong, elaborated on Price Statistics and the importance of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in economic planning and policymaking.
Underscoring the critical role of accurate data collection in shaping agricultural practices and enhancing economic stability in the region, the programme provided a valuable platform for participants to engage with experts and gain deeper insights into the role of statistical data in improving agricultural productivity and economic planning.
