Ex-gratia assistance handed over to Tarapith fire victims at Dalu

Tura, August 19: The ex-gratia assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the five Meghalaya residents, who lost their lives in the tragic hotel fire near the Tarapith Temple in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, as announced by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.

The monry was handed over by Shri Brening A. Sangma, Minister for Border Areas Development, Excise, Home (Civil Defence & Home Guards) in the presence of Shri A.G. Momin, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner i/c Dalu Civil Sub-Division at their residence in Dalu, West Garo Hills on Wednesday.

The five victims from Meghalaya were among eight persons who died in the devastating fire that broke out in a hotel during the early hours of Monday. The deceased were identified as Rajendra Nath 45, Asha Nath 32, Buran Madak 45, Shivraj Madak 10 and Aushnath Madak 8, all residents of Dalu in West Garo Hills district.

The State Government has extended the financial assistance as a gesture of support and solidarity with the bereaved families during this time of immense grief.
