Shillong, July 15: Mirchi RJ Nicky J’s fight against indiscriminate littering for a cleaner Shillong, yet another successful campaign initiated by Mirchi RJ Nicky J of Radio Jockey of Mirchi 91.1 Shillong.
As part of My Shillong My Pride campaign at Umpling enroute to Ishyrwat which had turned into a dump yard due the indiscriminate dumping of garbage. The campaign started on Saturday the 9th of July 2021 with Nicky J staging a silent protest for 6-7 hours a day at that very sight.
During the course of the next few days concerned citizens from different parts of the city joined along with him as a mark of protest and finally on the 14th of July 2021 after 4 days the Dorbar shnong Umpling join in to support the campaign by cleaning up the very site.
The Headman of Umpling appreciated the initiative taken up my Nicky J and thank him for motivating them to strive harder to continue to work hard to keep the village and the adjoining areas clean and also asserted that henceforth there will strict vigilance and efforts to nab the culprits involved in indiscriminate dumping of garbage and also seek support of the law enforcement authorities.
RJ Nicky J asserted that the clean up was a temporary solution of the problem and demanded that the State Government has to immediately come up with a comprehensive community based waste management and also to find an alternative location to shift the present landfill.
