Ampati, August 14: The MLA of 52-Rangsakona (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency, Shri Subir M. Marak, on Thursday inspected the 19.5-kilometre stretch of National Highway 127B from Praharinagar to Garobadha to assess the condition of the road and review issues affecting connectivity along the route.
During the inspection, the MLA took stock of the existing condition of the highway and interacted with officials of the Public Works Department (Roads) regarding the maintenance, infrastructure and overall status of the road stretch.
The inspection focused on identifying areas requiring immediate and long-term attention to ensure safer, smoother and more efficient movement of commuters and goods.
Speaking during the inspection, Shri Marak emphasised that NH 127B serves as a lifeline for the people and communities along the route and, therefore, requires sustained attention and improvement. He informed that a proposal has been made for comprehensive infrastructure development along the highway, including the construction of modern waiting sheds at designated locations to improve commuter convenience.
The MLA further informed that weak and vulnerable infrastructure along the route, including culverts and bridges, has been proposed for upgradation to strengthen the road network and improve safety. He also stated that a proposal has been made for the development and improvement of approximately 33.2 kilometres of NH 127B, extending from Praharinagar up to Betasing.
The inspection was also aimed at facilitating better coordination between the elected representative and the concerned departments so that issues affecting road connectivity can be assessed and appropriate follow-up measures initiated.
Shri Marak was accompanied by Shri Dolrich B. G. Momin, Additional Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills; Shri Cheman D. Shira, Block Development Officer, Rerapara C&RD Block; Shri M. Kharnoiaor, Additional Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads); and officials of PWD (Roads).
The inspection underscored the importance of strengthening NH 127B as a vital road link for the people of the region and ensuring that the highway and its associated infrastructure remain safe, functional and capable of supporting the growing connectivity and transportation needs of the area.
