Shillong, July 19: Mr. Sanbor Shullai, Hon’ble Minister, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Government of Meghalaya, inaugurated the municipal market at Iewdak, Laban, Shillong today.
The new RCC+4 municipal market complex with a community hall of Dorbar Shnong, Laban was constructed with financial assistance from North Eastern Council, Government of India. The project sanctioned at an amount of Rs 14,27,50,000, was implemented by the Shillong Municipal Board. The project was initiated and recommended by Shri Sanbor Shullai.
In his address, Shri Sanbor Shullai expressed gratitude to Shri Conrad K. Sangma, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Meghalaya and the entire government machinery for their continued support in strengthening infrastructure across the state.
He said, “We have moved one more scheme here on the terrace, one more hall for public which will be utilized by 19-South Shillong constituency. We have a sanction of Rs 2 crore, and the work will start this month.” Another fund being sanctioned is the renovation of the Lumshatsngi market earmarked at Rs 2 crore, with work scheduled to begin this month.
He further informed that infrastructure scheme of Rs 35 crore has been moved for the cantonment area, out of which Rs 18 crore has been sanctioned.
Prior to the inauguration of the market, the Minister inaugurated a combined motorable road and aqueduct project constructed at a cost of Rs 1.65 crore.
Shri S.K. Bhalla (ITS), Secretary, North Eastern Council, Meghalaya, said that the inauguration marked the culmination of a project initiated several years ago.
He noted that the integrated facility would support livelihoods through the municipal market, provide a dedicated space for community and cultural activities through the community hall, and strengthen grassroots governance by housing the office of the Dorbar Shnong.
Delivering his speech, Shri P.K. Boro, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), expressed his gratitude to Shri Sanbor Shullai. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Shillong Municipal Board team, and the cooperation from the Dorbar Shnong of Laban.
In his speech, Shri Edward Kharwanlang, Dorbar Shnong Laban, urged the shopkeepers to maintain cleanliness and ensure proper upkeep of the market premises.
