Shillong, April 24: The Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community and Skill Development Center, Wahiajer a constituent College of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) successfully organized the Capacity Building Extension Programme for the farmers of Laskein Block, West Jaintia Hills District(WJHD) entitled “Skill Enhancement for Horticultural Development and Sustainability for Farmers of NEH Region” in collaboration with ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.
During the programme, 250 participants of the farming community attended the programme. The technical session was conducted by the technical expert viz. Smti Risakaru Lyngdoh, Specialist in Agronomy, KVK Waiajer, WJHD.
The technical session saw lively interactive between the participants and resource person leading to sharing of valuable insights and knowledge on towards upgradation of latest skills related to the various types of horticultural farming techniques with a focus on products to promote health and wellness especially amongst the youth and women of the community.
The Valedictory Function was attended by Shri Nujorki Sungoh, Member Legislative Assembly(MLA), 4-Mowkaiaw Constituency, West Jaintia Hills District who graced the programme as the Chief Guest in the presence of Shri Wormanship Shadap, MDC, 14-Mowkaiaw Constituency, Prof. S. Umdor, Pro Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Shillong.
Prof. H. Lamin, Former Principal incharge DDUCC, Shri Hunbait Chyrmang, Executive Engineer, MePDCL, WJHD, Shri Shaniah Lamare, Headman, Mowkaiaw, and Dr. F. R. Sumer, Principal incharge DDUCC. Others present were Shri A. Shadap, MDC Bareto Mukroh, officers and staff of government departments, Members of Wahajer Village, Mowkaiaw Village, Smti Risakaru Lyngdoh other dignitaries, invitees and DDUCC staff.
Shri Nujorki Sungoh, Member Legislative Assembly(MLA), 14-Mowkaiaw Constituency, West Jaintia Hills District expressed extreme happiness for being invited to be part of a significant programme. He congratulated NEHU-DDUCC for the efforts made through the various skilled-based training programmes which had befitted the youth and women of the community.
He reminded the farmers of the importance of their roles in the society and urged them to utilize the knowledge and resources gained through the training programme in order to empower themselves and their family to face the challenge and transform towards entrepreneurs for their sustainable livelihood and to address employment issued for the benefit of the community at large.
He complimented on the active role played by NEHU-DDUCC for organizing such an extension programme for the farmers of Laskein Block and assured his support for the growth and development of its future endeavours.
In his remarks, Prof. S. Umdor, emphasized the importance of Farming and the significant role they play in the society. He reminder the participants that the future is in their hands and urged them to utilize the resources gained to enhance their farming skills while exploring the various government support schemes and subsidies in order to promote their farming activities and contribute towards economic development.
While congratulating the farmers, he assured all support through NEHU-DDUC and look forward for more partnership deal with ICAR-IIHR and other government departments and agencies for the benefit of the farming community at large. This program is a collaborative efforts of DDUCC and ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru for the benefit of the farmers of NEH region and Laskein Block in particular.
While Shri Shaniah Lamare gave the welcome address, Dr. F.R.Sumer, shared the mission and objectives of the extension programme. Others who spoke were Shri Wormanship Shadap, MDC and Prof.(Retd.) H. Lamin.
The distribution of horticultural inputs and seedlings to the 250 farmers and participants mostly women farmers marked the conclusion of the event. Shri Wolnish Rymbai, Programme Coordinator, and Chairman of the function while proposing the vote of thanks expressed sincere gratitude to all those present in the auspicious program.
He specially acknowledged Dr. Tusar Kanti Behara, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and Dr. T. Sakthivel, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru of for their collaborative support through the horticultural inputs and seedlings which ensure the programme a grand success.
He also added that these programs were greatly valued by the members of the community especially the beloved farmers who have attended the training programme organized by DDUCC from time to time.
