PHE minister holds SLR of JJM and water supply schemes in Shillong

Shillong, May 26: The PHE Minister Shri Marcuise N Marak had a in depth review of JJM and all important water supply schemes of the state with officials of PHE Department in Windermere Resort in Shillong.

He reviewed all important and flagship urban water supply schemes like New Shillong Township  , Williamnagar  Phase 2 , Greater Shillong and Baghmara Water Supply Schemes along with other rural schemes .

A portal for contractor registration developed by NIC was also launched in the review meeting.  He also reviewed progress of Jal Jeevan Mission and pending dues which are getting addressed by the Ministry and State Government by meeting the criteria laid down by Government of India for release .

Matters relating to creation of Shillong and Tura Jal Board was also discussed apart from measures to strengthen water quality monitoring and water testing facilities . The efforts to strengthen Village and Water Sanitation Committees was also a focal point of the review meeting.

Also discussed were issues of coordination with PWD Roads Department and Forest Department and measures for source protection in close collaboration with Soil & Water Conservation Department.

The review meeting was attended by Commissioner and Secretary PHE , Chief Engineer  , Joint Secretary PHE and officials at the level of Additional Chief Engineers , Superintending Engineers , Executive Engineers and Sub Divisional Officers reoresenting all PHE Divisions.  Newly recruited Assistant Engineers were also formally welcomed in the meeting.

“Held a comprehensive review meeting on the implementation and progress of various Water Supply Schemes across Meghalaya. The meeting was attended by the Commissioner & Secretary, Joint Secretary, Chief Engineers, Additional Chief Engineers, and officials of the PHE Department.

Detailed reviews were undertaken for major State Government projects, including the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme, New Shillong Water Supply Scheme, Tura Bulk Water Supply Scheme, Williamnagar Urban Water Supply Scheme, among others.

The meeting also assessed the progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and satisfaction was expressed regarding the achievements made and the fulfilment of the criteria laid down by the Government of India for the release of pending JJM payments.

Additionally, “I had the honour of launching the digital portal for “Application from Contractors for Registration and Renewal under Different Categories,” developed by NEC, aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and ease of access in the registration process.”
