Students urged to take action for Ozone Layer protection at Mukdangra

Ampati, Sept 17: Students were urged to take an active role in protecting the environment and addressing climate-related challenges as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was observed at Mukdangra United School on September 16, 2026, under the theme “Global Action for a Cooler Planet.”

Speaking at the programme, Smt. S. T. M. Sangma, Range Forest Officer, Social Forestry Range, Betasing, emphasised the importance of protecting the ozone layer and adopting responsible environmental practices. She stressed that environmental protection required sustained collective action and greater awareness at the community level.

The Principal of Mukdangra United School highlighted the vital role of the ozone layer in protecting life on Earth and spoke about the harmful effects of its depletion. The Principal also encouraged students to develop environmentally responsible habits and contribute to conservation efforts in their daily lives.

The observance included a drawing and painting competition, providing students an opportunity to express their understanding of environmental protection. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners and participants.

A tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign further reinforced the message of environmental responsibility and active community participation.

The programme brought together students, teachers and forest officials to promote greater awareness of ozone protection and encourage practical action towards a healthier and cooler planet.
