Shillong, Oct 06: 6th October, 2026: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Meghalaya, Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari, IAS, held a virtual review meeting with the Deputy Commissioners/District Election Officers (DCs/DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and other election officials to review the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 across the State.
The CEO also held the regular meeting with representatives of the Recognized National and State Political Parties, where the latest progress of SIR 2026, the status of notice and hearing cases, and the recent voter-facilitation measures introduced by the Election Commission of India were discussed.
Over 94% of Notice Cases Completed, As per the latest SIR status, out of 21,69,243 electors in the Draft Electoral Roll, 6,51,735 notices were generated. Of these, 6,51,391 notices have been delivered, with only 344 notices pending delivery.
A total of 6,13,512 cases have completed hearing, representing 94.14% of the notices generated. So far, 1,510 electors have been found ineligible for the Final Electoral Roll after the prescribed process, while 19,96,297 electors have been parked for Final Publication.
Of the total notices generated, 2,22,786 relate to electors under the No Mapping category, while 4,28,949 relate to cases involving mapping discrepancies. The CEO directed the election machinery to focus on the remaining cases and ensure that every eligible elector is provided adequate opportunity in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
BLOs to Visit Homes for Collection of Documents, The CEO reiterated the voter-friendly directions issued by the Election Commission of India vide Press Note No. ECI/PN/120/2026 dated 26th September, 2026.
Electors who have been issued notices for being unmapped or having logical discrepancies need not ordinarily visit the ERO/AERO office. The concerned BLO will visit the elector’s home, collect the required documents and upload them on ECINet for decision by the ERO.
Only in exceptional circumstances, as decided by the ERO, will a hearing be required, and such hearing should preferably be conducted online. Where required, an elector may also authorise any adult member of the family to attend the hearing on his/her behalf.
The DEOs have also been directed to establish adequate Help Desks/Special Camps to facilitate persons living in night shelters, labourers, economically disadvantaged persons, homeless persons and others requiring assistance.
There are 23,259 Forms Received and Digitised, So far, 23,259 applications have been received and digitised across the State, comprising 12,624 Form 6 applications, 1,616 Form 7 applications, 1,590 Form 8 applications for shifting and 7,429 Form 8 applications for correction.
The CEO emphasised timely scrutiny and disposal of applications in accordance with the prescribed procedure. Political Parties Participating through 1,814 BLAs
The participation of political parties through Booth Level Agents (BLAs) was also discussed. The Recognized National and State Political Parties have appointed a total of 1,814 BLAs across the State — 736 by NPP, 186 by INC, 121 by UDP, 320 by VPP, 393 by BJP and 58 by AITC.
During the meeting with political parties, their representatives were requested to continue extending cooperation through their BLAs and to assist in disseminating accurate information regarding SIR and the latest facilitation measures available to electors.
Final Publication on 26th October, 2026, As per the revised schedule communicated by the Election Commission of India, the Final Electoral Roll in Meghalaya is scheduled for publication on 26th October, 2026.
The CEO urged the election machinery to utilise the remaining period to reach out to concerned electors and ensure that all pending cases are dealt with carefully and in accordance with the Commission’s directions.
Electors who are contacted by their BLOs are requested to cooperate and furnish the required documents. After Final Publication, every elector is advised to check and confirm that his/her name appears in the Final Electoral Roll.
