Ampati, Oct 26: In a bid to strengthen transparency and accountability in public administration, a training programme on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, was conducted for officials of Zikzak C&RD Block under Programme PIN 424689 on Monday.
Giles Ch. Sangma, Advocate, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya, served as the resource person and explained key provisions of the Act and the Meghalaya Right to Information Rules, 2025.
The sessions covered RTI application procedures, statutory timelines, disclosure exemptions, appeals, record maintenance and the responsibilities of Public Information Officers. Participants also discussed practical challenges in handling applications, drafting replies and complying with legal requirements.
The programme concluded with group exercises based on RTI case studies and an open-house discussion.
The training aimed to enhance officials’ capacity to handle RTI applications efficiently and ensure greater transparency and accountability at the block level.
