Ampati, June 19: In preparation for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls with reference to 01 October 2026 as the qualifying date, the Office of the District Election Officer (DEO), South West Garo Hills, organized a comprehensive training programme for election officials on Friday at the BADO Multi Facility Centre, Ampati.
The training programme was conducted for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) serving under the 53-Ampati (ST) Assembly Constituency and 54-Mahendraganj (ST) Assembly Constituency. The initiative forms part of the Election Commission’s efforts to ensure that electoral rolls remain accurate, inclusive, and up to date ahead of future electoral processes.
Addressing the participants, Dr. W. C. R. Marak, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), South West Garo Hills, highlighted the significance of the Special Intensive Revision exercise and the crucial role played by Booth Level Officers in maintaining the integrity of the electoral roll.
He explained that the revision process is essential for ensuring that every eligible citizen is provided an opportunity to register as a voter while removing entries that no longer qualify due to reasons such as death, migration, or duplication.
During the technical sessions, participants were provided detailed guidance on various components of the revision process. These included house-to-house verification of electors, identification and enrolment of newly eligible voters who have attained the qualifying age, verification of existing voter details, correction of inaccuracies in electoral records, and deletion of ineligible or duplicate entries.
Officials also explained the procedures for processing applications through the prescribed forms and adhering to the guidelines and instructions issued by the Election Commission of India.
Special emphasis was laid on the importance of field-level verification and maintaining transparency throughout the revision exercise. BLOs were instructed to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll and that all claims and objections are handled in a fair and impartial manner.
They were also advised to maintain regular communication with local communities and assist citizens in understanding the registration and correction procedures.
The training further covered the responsibilities of BLO Supervisors and Enumerators, who will assist in monitoring and facilitating the revision activities.
Election officials discussed the timelines for various stages of the revision process and stressed the need for timely submission of reports and records to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.
Officials noted that the Special Intensive Revision exercise is a vital component of strengthening democratic institutions by ensuring that electoral rolls accurately reflect the eligible voting population. Accurate electoral rolls contribute significantly to the conduct of free, fair, transparent, and inclusive elections.
The programme witnessed the participation of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), BLO Supervisors, Enumerators, Booth Level Officers, and other election officials associated with the revision exercise.
Interactive sessions enabled participants to seek clarification on operational procedures and practical challenges that may arise during field verification activities.
Meanwhile, officials informed that a similar training programme for Booth Level Officers of the 55-Salmanpara (ST) Assembly Constituency has been scheduled for 23 June 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Multi Facility Centre, Ampati, as part of the district’s continued efforts to ensure effective implementation of the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls across all Assembly Constituencies in South West Garo Hills.
