101 Area pugilists have won the prestigious ECB Championship

Shillong, Jymmang 18: 101 Area pugilists have won the prestigious Eastern Command Boxing Championship for the year 2014-15.  The championship was conducted at 58 GTC from 12 to 17 May 2014.  12 Teams from the Eastern Command participated in the championship.  In the keenly contested Boxing event comprising more than hundred bouts, 101 Area emerged victorious by winning finals in six weight categories and overall tally of 42 points.  39 Boxers have been shortlisted for the coaching camp to be held at 58 GTC which is also the Eastern Command Boxing Node. The 50 day coaching camp is the prelude to the Army Boxing Championship to be held at Bangalore in July 2014.

Naik Tilak Budha of 101 Area in the Light Welter Weight category (60-64 kg) was adjudged as the Best Boxer of the championship and Havaldar Sukhvinder Singh of 71 Infantry Division was adjudged as the Best
Loser of the championship.  Lt Gen RS Panwar, SM, VSM, GOC 101 Area
distributed the prizes to winners and the Runners Up. The only centre for
sports for children from the NE, the  Cadets of ‘Boys Sports Company’ aged
11 and 12 years also exhibited their boxing bouts.

A Karate specialist showed his talent in juggling with 7 knives in the air, and two soldiers of 58 GTC showed their juggling talent with footballs as part of the closing ceremony. A large gathering of army officers, soldiers and families attended the closing ceremony.(SP News)
