Jiten Lyngdoh had escaped from Mendipathar police lock up Rebel caught by villagers

Tura, Aug 19: Jiten Lyngdoh, a cadre of the A’chik National Cooperative Army (ANCA) who had managed to escape yesterday was caught today by the vigilant villagers at Niyapali, near Damas in North Garo
Hills, along Assam-Meghalaya border, about 140 km from Tura.

Lyngdoh and outfit’s self-styled chairman, William A. Sangma had managed to escape from Mendipathar police lock up yesterday. Both the militants were arrested by Assam police from Agia in Goalpara
district on Saturday and handed over to Meghalaya counterpart.

Lyngdoh was nabbed when he was trying to escape through the village, after an alert for his capture was made by the Assam and Meghalaya police. He was caught at about 12:30 this afternoon. He was beaten up and handed over to the police in North Garo Hills.

“We had sounded an alert and had spoken to all village Sordars and Nokmas to help get these two hard core militants back into custody. We have managed to get back Lyngdoh and hopefully we will be able to get back the other one as well”, said Jerry Marak, superintendent of
police, North Garo Hills.

“We have some inputs on the whereabouts of William and our team is on the lookout. He is said to be injured and some people have spotted him. Our search is on and we hope to get him soon”, Marak added.

Lyngdoh and William escaped after the sentry on duty did not take precautions and open the lock up. The sentry on duty, Jajeng Marak has been arrested for negligence and criminal conspiracy.
The newly floated outfit came to limelight after a series of kidnapping along Tura – Dalu route.
The duo had confessed to their involvement in the abduction of Saumendu Chakraborty, who was kidnapped at gunpoint from Baromile, near Tura last month.(SP News)
