NEIGRIHMS convene Programme on management of public health emergencies for DHO 

Shillong, Sept 09: The Department of Community Medicine, NEIGRIHMS is conducting a 6-day Capacity Building Programme on the Management of Public Health Emergencies for District Health Officers under Central Sector Scheme.

Health Sector Preparedness and Response funded by Disaster Management Cell, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India from 9-14 September 2024.

The programme started by welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Star Pala, Head of the Department incharge, Community Medicine, NEIGRIHMS followed by speech from guest of honour Prof. C Daniala, Medical Superintendent of NEIGRIHMS.

The inaugural session was also graced by chief guest Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, Director, NEIGRIHMS, alongside esteemed guests, including Prof. (Dr.) Noor Topno, Head of General Surgery, NEIGRIHMS; and Prof. (Dr.) Bhaskar Borgohain, Head of Orthopaedics NEIGRIHMS.

Director NEIGRIHMS Prof. Nalin Mehta stressed on the importance of preparedness for future pandemic after learning our lesson from Covid 19 Pandemic. He further added that we have to take decision for early appropriate intervention which is scientific and convey the same to the public for prevention and control.

The programme aims to enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of District Health Officers (DHOs) in effectively managing public health emergencies, which may range from disease outbreaks to natural disasters.

With the growing challenges of health crises, this training will empower District Health Officers with critical skills to mitigate risks, ensure swift response, and safeguard public health.

Led by a team of seasoned experts, the program features approximately 40 interactive sessions, aiming to strengthen the public health system’s capacity to manage emergencies, safeguard communities, and minimize the impact on health services.
