Shillong, Sept 18: The Secretary Meghalaya International Exports Chamber of Commerce (MIECC) Dawki Meghalaya Smti Dolly Khonglah has accepted the invitation from the office of the United Nations, Nations Unies (UNNU) looking after Economics and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific South and South West Asia to attend the meeting to be held at the National Capital New Delhi in the month of October 2024.
The two days Sub regional Capacity Building Workshop Promoting Multi-modal Connectivity in Eastern South Asia 22-23 October 2024, Paro, Bhutan Enhanced connectivity covering Bangladesh, Bhutan.
The meeting will dicussed India particularly the North East Region of India and Nepal, referred to as the Eastern South Asia (ESA) subregion, can potentially lead to significant trade and industrial potential for the subregional countries.
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) supports ESA countries in improving multi-modal connectivity and subregional trade linkages through a series of capacity building and technical assistance programmes, based on regional transport frameworks promoted by ESCAP such as the Asian Highways (AH), Trans-Asian Railways (TAR) and Dry Ports networks.
In continuation of this programme, ESCAP is organizing a Subregional Workshop on ‘Promoting Multi-modal Connectivity in Eastern South Asia’, at Paro, Bhutan, during 22-23 October 2024, to discuss transport and trade facilitation reform proposals for maximizing development outcomes for traders and local communities.
The event will be attended by transport and trade officials, customs and border control agencies, private sector of the ESA countries, BIMSTEC and other relevant regional organizations, multilateral development agencies, think-tanks and traders’ associations.
A concept note and tentative agenda of the Workshop is enclosed for your kind reference. One of the sessions of the Workshop will focus on perspectives of private sector, including trader and industry associations and transport and logistics service providers, on issues of participation in cross-border trade and supply chain networks of the ESA subregion.
