Shillong, Sept 29: Saindur Enviro Organizes Environmental Rally as Part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 Campaign As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, Saindur Enviro, Shillong, in collaboration with several organizations, organized an Environmental Rally in the city today under the theme “Our Country, Our Environment, Our Responsibility.”
The rally aimed to raise awareness about critical environmental challenges such as plastic pollution, river contamination, and the importance of proper waste disposal. T
he rally drew over 150 participants, with enthusiastic involvement from NCC cadets from 61 Megh Girls BN, 2 Megh BN, and 42 Megh BN, along with students from Sankardev College and Shillong College, as well as representatives from various environmental organizations.
Marching through the streets with placards and banners, participants chanted impactful slogans like “Refuse Single-Use Plastics, Save the Earth!”, “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat,” and “Clean Rivers, Green Future!” to inspire citizens to take responsibility for protecting the environment.
The rally was flagged-off by Chief Guest Shri R. S. Gill, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PccF), Forest and Environment Department, Govt. of Meghalaya, alongside Guest of Honor Shri R. Nainamalai, IFS, Chairman of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.
The event was graced by Shri T. Marwein, MCS, Magistrate, EKH District, and Col. V. Pant, representing the National Cadet Corps, Meghalaya, as well as prominent environmentalists like Shri Jiwat Vaswani from Jiva Cares.
In his address, Chief Guest Shri R. S. Gill, IFS congratulated the organizers for the successful rally, stating, “The enthusiastic participation of the NCC cadets and young volunteers gives us hope for the future.
It is heartening to see the youth leading the charge in protecting our environment. Their actions today set an example for all of us.” He urged everyone to become frontline advocates of sustainability in their daily lives, reminding the audience that only through consistent effort can we achieve a cleaner, greener, and healthier future. Guest of Honor Shri R. Nainamalai, IFS, emphasized that “While this rally is a significant step forward, our journey does not end here.
“We must continue spreading the message of cleanliness and environmental protection far and wide. I encourage everyone to make small yet impactful changes—such as reducing plastic use, conserving water, and ensuring proper waste disposal”.
Together, we can create lasting change.” Representing the East Khasi Hills District Authority, Shri T. Marwein, MCS, expressed his gratitude to Saindur Enviro for organizing the rally. He stressed the importance of regular awareness campaigns involving people from all age groups and walks of life to ensure that the message of environmental protection reaches every citizen.
Col. V. Pant from NCC highlighted the need for sustained efforts, stating, “Our mission does not stop until every citizen realizes and performs their duty towards the environment.
They must continue our efforts until environmental responsibility becomes a part of everyone’s daily routine.” Through this rally, Saindur Enviro aims to reach people from all walks of life, emphasizing that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is a shared responsibility.
