Speaker held review meeting on the ongoing construction assembly building

Shillong, May 20:  A review meeting on the construction of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Shri Thomas A. Sangma.

The internal review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Prestone Tynsong, along with consultants, the Project Management Consultant (PMC), and officials from various line departments, including the Public Works Department (PWD), IT Cell, and National Informatics Centre (NIC), to assess the progress of work on the new Assembly building.

Also present at the meeting were the Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Shri Malthus S. Sangma, and Adviser (Legislation), Dr. Andrew Simons.

During the meeting, the progress of construction and related works were reviewed in detail. Following the assessment, the Hon’ble Speaker stated that the progress of work was found to be satisfactory and expressed confidence that the construction of the new Assembly building would be completed within the stipulated time frame.

Responding to the recent viral video circulating online regarding the roof of the new Assembly building, the Speaker said the matter had been blown out of proportion and described the development as unfortunate.

While appreciating and welcoming constructive criticism, Shri Thomas A. Sangma urged members of the public to refrain from sharing or posting unverified content that may create misconceptions and bring disrepute to the institution of the Legislative Assembly.
