Maligaon, June 24: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a significant milestone in its mission towards complete railway electrification with the successful energization of the 132 KV transmission line from Haflong Grid Sub-Station (GSS) to New Haflong Traction Sub-Station (NHLG TSS) at 14:22 hrs on 17th June 2026.
The energization of the transmission line marks the completion of a crucial component of the railway electrification project in the strategically important Lumding-Badarpur Hill section.
The commissioning of the New Haflong Traction Sub-Station is a major step forward in enabling electric train operations across this challenging hill route, which serves as a vital rail link connecting the Barak Valley and the northeastern states with the rest of the country.
With the successful energization, all major physical works related to the traction power supply infrastructure have now been completed. The project has entered its final stage, and the section is expected to be commissioned for electric train operations in the coming weeks following the completion of mandatory testing, inspection and trial runs.
The electrification of the Lumding – Badarpur Hill section will enhance operational efficiency, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, improve hauling capacity, lower maintenance costs and contribute significantly towards environmentally sustainable railway operations.
Northeast Frontier Railway remains committed to modernizing its infrastructure and providing faster, greener and more efficient rail services across the region.
