Shillong, June 24: In the remote communities of Meghalaya, access to quality healthcare remains a challenge for many residents. Recognising this need, Shree Cement has been steadily expanding its community development initiatives in the region, with a growing focus on healthcare interventions that directly improve the quality of life for local communities.
As part of itseffort, Shree Cement has organiseda Vision Screening Project in villages around its project area for the local residents.
During the camp, community members underwent comprehensive eye examinations. The screenings helped a substantial number oflocalswith corrective spectacles, which were prescribed to help improve their vision and daily productivity. Rest of the people attending the camp were provided with specialised medical attention and were referred for further treatment.
The initiative addresses a critical but often overlooked healthcare need in rural areas, where access to routine eye care services can be limited. Early diagnosis and timely intervention can significantly improve educational outcomes, workplace productivity, and overall well-being.
Further reinforcing its commitment to community healthcare, Shree Cement is preparing to deploy ambulance services to serve its communities. The initiative is expected to improve access to emergency medical care and provide faster transportation for patients requiring treatment at healthcare facilities, particularly in areas where medical infrastructure remains limited.
Speaking on the development, Shree Cement spokesperson said, “the company’s integrated approach reflects an understanding that sustainable development extends beyond infrastructure creation. By simultaneously addressing healthcare, education, energy access, and community welfare, Shree Cement is helping create an enabling environment for long-term socio-economic progress in Meghalaya.”
The vision screening programme builds upon Shree Cement’s broader commitment to improving living standards in Meghalaya through sustainable and community-focused interventions.
In partnership with GHE Foundation and local stakeholders, the company has supported solar village electrification, clean cooking solutions, and solar-powered digital education infrastructure.
As the company continues to work closely with local communities and stakeholders, these interventions are contributing to stronger healthcare access and improved quality of life for residents across the region
