Maligaon, July 10:Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recorded a remarkable improvement in its ticket checking performance during June 2026, reflecting its continued commitment towards ensuring transparent ticketing practices, curbing ticketless travel and providing a fair travel environment for genuine passengers.
Intensive ticket checking drives conducted across stations and trains throughout the zone resulted in the detection of 1,14,633 passengers travelling without tickets or with irregular tickets during the month, compared to 91,717 such passengers detected in June 2025, registering an increase of nearly 25%.
The sustained enforcement efforts led to the realization of Rs 14.44 crore through fare and excess charges during June 2026, a significant increase from Rs 9.10 crore collected during the corresponding month last year, reflecting a growth of nearly 59% in revenue.
Out of the total detections, 81,744 passengers were found travelling without tickets, generating Rs 11.85 crore in fare and excess charges, while 32,889 passengers were detected travelling with irregular tickets, contributing Rs 2.59 crore in revenue.
In addition, NFR realized Rs 46.84 lakh through non-penalty cases during the month, while luggage checking also contributed to revenue generation by ensuring compliance with railway luggage booking rules.
The success of the campaign was supported by 377 intensive ticket checking drives conducted across the zone during the month, compared to 349 drives in June 2025.
Ticket checking staff covered 3,289 trains, a substantial increase over the 2,217 trains checked during the corresponding period last year, demonstrating NFR’s enhanced focus on vigilance and revenue protection.
The cumulative performance during the first quarter of 2026–27 has also been encouraging. From April to June 2026, NFR detected 3,35,040 cases of ticketless and irregular travel, generating Rs 39.56 crore through fare and excess charges, compared to 2,37,256 cases and Rs 22.78 crore during the corresponding period of 2025–26.
The railway also realized Rs 1.42 crore through non-penalty cases during the cumulative period, highlighting the sustained effectiveness of its ticket checking initiatives.
These achievements underscore the dedicated efforts of NFR’s Commercial Department, ticket checking staff and field officials, who have been conducting regular surprise inspections and special drives to discourage ticketless and irregular travel.
Northeast Frontier Railway once again appeals to passengers to travel only with valid tickets, carry proper travel authority and book excess luggage as per Railway rules.
Such cooperation will help ensure a safe, transparent and comfortable travel experience for all passengers while strengthening the efficiency and financial sustainability of railway operations.
