BAC finalises five-day autumn session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly

Shillong, July 31: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Friday approved the calendar for the Autumn Session, which will be held over five days from August 24 to August 28, 2026.

Briefing the media after the BAC meeting, Hon’ble Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Shri Thomas A. Sangma, said the committee unanimously agreed on the proposed calendar.

The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Prestone Tynsong, Hon’ble Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Mukul M. Sangma, Hon’ble Opposition Chief Whip, Shri Charles Pyngrope, Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Shri Malthus S Sangma and other members.

The Speaker said the five-day session will comprise three days of Government Business and two days of Private Members’ Business.

Addressing concerns over the limited duration of the session, Shri Thomas A. Sangma acknowledged that the allotment of time is always an important issue and assured that he would make every effort to provide members from both the treasury and opposition benches with adequate opportunities to raise matters of public importance.

“I will try my best to accommodate all the members concerned and ensure that every member gets an opportunity to express their concerns on the floor of the House.”

According to the calendar approved by the Business Advisory Committee, the programme of business will be, on monday, August 24, 2026 is a Government Business, Announcement of the Report of the Business Advisory Committee.

Announcement of the names of Members nominated to the Panel of Chairmen. Laying of Ordinances, Orders, Notifications, Reports, Rules and Regulations. Introduction of Government Bills.Presentation of the Supplementary Demands for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for 2026–2027, Obituary references.
