Tura, Sept 03: Meghalaya Chief Minister mr. Conrad K. Sangma Wednesday distributed land pattas to residents of Ronggi Songgital in Tura area, fulfilling long-standing demand of the people of the area.
The pattas were handed over to those who were living in GAD land. There are eight such localities in Tura, of which land documents have been distributed in four such localities.
Addressing at the handing over ceremony, the Chief Minister recalled his visit to the locality in 2018, when he had promised the people that he would work towards fulfilling their long-pending demands.
He said that the distribution of land pattas was a fulfilment of that promise and expressed his happiness at being able to deliver on the commitment made to the people. “A total of 21 land pattas were distributed to the beneficiaries during the programme.”
The beneficiaries also expressed their happiness and gratitude, stating that receiving the land pattas provides them with a greater sense of security and recognition of their rights over the land.
The Chief Minister said that the occasion was particularly meaningful because it represented the fulfilment of a promise made years ago. He further reaffirmed his commitment to working for the welfare and development of the people of Meghalaya.
The distribution programme concluded with the beneficiaries expressing appreciation for the initiative, while the Chief Minister also shared his satisfaction at seeing the happiness of the people who received the land pattas.
He said the land ownership documents would provide legal security to beneficiaries and help access bank loans, obtain necessary certificates and avail themselves of various govt schemes and public services. “The families who received the document can find security especially in availing loans, necessary certifications, govt schemes and services, etc,” he said
Describing the occasion as “a great and satisfying moment,” the Chief Minister said the issuance of land documents was the result of dedicated collaboration between the government and the public. He stressed that such cooperation was vital for development and growth.
The Chief Minister assured that similar land settlement matters in other localities would also be addressed in due course. He reiterated that the government would proceed only with the consent and cooperation of the people and would not impose any decision unilaterally.
District officials stated that the initiative would help streamline land records, improve governance and bring clarity to land ownership in the Tura Town Area. The programme was attended by senior district officials, community leaders, beneficiaries and local residents.
